Living With The Paranormal

Spirits or ghosts that live in the same homes we do are often there to stay no matter how we feel about them. It often starts with you noticing little things like figures out of the corner of your eye and things being lost and then being found right where you left it several days later.

The majority of the spirits that abide in our homes are complete harmless. You can spend years living in the home without hearing a single peep from them. Others make themselves known right away as a way of telling you “Hey, I'm here and you're just going to have to live with it.”

Prognosticator's in Movies

The thing about telling the future is that it's a fickle thing and Hollywood has been using this for decades. They have been portrayed as hanky wearing gypsies to evil blind witches with a magical eye. Thank you to Clash of the Titans for that one.

My favorite portrayal of prognostication was in the Nicholas Cage movie Next. Cage plays a cut rate magician in Las Vegas, but in reality he has the ability to see a few minutes into the future. The duration of how far he sees into the future varies, but mostly its a few minutes.

Cage has a considerable amount of control over the ability and can use it at will. A trait not many prognosticators have and one that they would surely envy. He's not only able to see the future, but also the directions things take if different decisions were made. For example, if he goes left one time and right the other.

Would You Really Want To Prognosticate?

I have often wondered whether or not I would want some sort of psychic ability such as prognostication or the ability to contact the dead. On one hand, it would be awesome to have an ability shared by only a few others, but it also seems like a curse to many.

Prognostication is one that would seem to be more trouble than its worth. The visions can come without warning often feeling like a migraine. They are never complete and instead are just flashes of pictures and feelings.

If you can piece together the event, then you have to decide what you are going to do about it. Prognostications are hardly ever 100 percent accurate, so if this is something that will have a significant impact on someone, then you risk not only your credibility, but also being implicated in the happening.

If you do nothing and something happens, then you feel like you should have done something. Also, what if you see something about your own future. Would you feel a sense of foreboding if it is something bad or would you work hard to change it. I don't think I would want prognostication for anything.

The Future of Prediction

There was a time when psychic abilities and future prediction were wrapped in mystery. It was something that not many people talked about and very few advertised. That's not the case today.

You can't turn on the television without seeing a show about hunting ghosts, talking to the dead or following a psychic around for the day. These people have stopped being pariahs of society and turned into the newest reality celebrities.

Does coming out in the psychic world cheapen you? There are many people that feel these gifts are sacred and should not be exploited for personal gain. People think these abilities should only be used to help people and not to sell books or line your pockets with cash.
